The legal professional title "Patent Attorney" ("Patentanwalt"/"Patentanwältin") was granted by the Federal Republic of Germany, that of the "Professional Representative before the European Patent Office" ("European Patent Attorney") by the European Patent Office.
The legitimacy to use the professional titles of European Trademark Attorney and European Design Attorney is confirmed by entry in the list of professional representatives before the European Union Intellectual Property Office in accordance with Article 89 of Council Regulation (EC) No. 40/94 of 20 December 1993 on the Community trade mark and Article 78 of Council Regulation (EC) No 6/2002 of 12 December 2001 on the Community design.
